A lot has happened since last we checked in! Our fundraising campaign is over 75% complete, we’re building our production team, and the most exciting thing of all: our first day of rehearsals is only two days away. Read more…

I Am Who I Am

baby-picture

I mean metaphorical baby pictures, not real ones like this one of me rocking a red tracksuit.

You know when your mom pulls out your baby pictures and shows them to your friends? How proud she is, but also how dumb you used to look and act? And how embarrassing the whole thing is?

That’s what this’ll be like, except instead of baby pictures, it’s old (and brand new!) music from the show, and instead of my mom, it’s me. Read more…

Let’s talk about self-producing.

Recently, I sat down with Jenny Paul and Lynn Spector to talk about what it means to be a self-produced artist. Jenny comes from the theatre world and is currently an actor and producer on That Reminds Me… (www.ThatRemindsMeTheSeries.com), a new web sitcom coming That Reminds Me...out this summer.

reg-e-catheyI’m calling myself that because my students and I recently met Reg E. Cathey, and he advised them never to say “I want to be an actor, or an artist,” because they need to define themselves by saying “I AM an actor.”

I also teach others how to write (I have to eat), and as such, I am privy to all sorts of writing advice. Be it advice regarding the writing process, advice about what to write, or advice about what to change in one’s writing, I’ve gotten it all, given it all, and am going to share it all with you.

secret-gifLast week we were finally able to announce that 210 Amlent Avenue has been selected for NYMF’s 2015 Next Link Project. Yippee! But Becky and I have known we were on the short-list since December (!). In this post I wanted to share all the stuff we’ve been doing in secret since then. Read more…
